MaryBeth Sobel Schroeder

MaryBeth Sobel Schroeder is the founder of Spectrum Legal Group, LLP in Denver, Colorado. She has over twenty years of experience in corporate law, employment law, energy law and complex civil litigation. Ms. Schroeder has assisted numerous small to mid-size businesses in all facets of formation as entities and advised them on available business structure options.  She has developed, drafted, and revised numerous business documents, which reflect the individual circumstances and needs of each business client.

Ms. Schroeder is also experienced in the negotiation and litigation of various business and employment issues and has worked extensively with corporate clients conducting internal legal compliance investigations and audits. She has conducted numerous seminars and training sessions for attorneys, legal administrators, and for all levels of management and support staff in private companies in both Colorado and Wyoming.

Ms. Schroeder is a member of the Colorado and Wyoming Bar Associations.  She is a Colorado Bar Foundation Fellow Emeritus, Recognized Top Lawyers the Secrets to their Success 2017. In 2019, Ms. Schroeder received AV Preeminent Judicial Edition from her peers and the judiciary. She is an AV Preeminent Attorney 2019 and listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Woman Lawyers 2019.  She received her undergraduate degree in Business Administration and Economics from Regis University and her J.D. degree from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law.  She obtained a Safety and Health Specialist Certificate for General Industry and Oil/Gas from the OSHA Training Institute (2014). Ms. Schroeder practices in the U.S. District Court, and the states of Colorado and Wyoming.

Jim Ed Franklin

Mr. Franklin practices transactional and corporate law, specializing in advising small to mid-sized companies. Mr. Franklin has substantial experience in energy law, dovetailing with his property development and contracting skills. In this area, Mr. Franklin has advised start-up oil and gas exploration companies about formation, investor agreements, due diligence, acquisitions, mergers, drilling contracts, joint operating agreements, and participation agreements. He has managed substantial escrow accounts and served as general counsel. He advises landowners about securing mineral rights and payments for production as well as about oil and gas leases. He also drafts documents for litigation support.

Mr. Franklin has drafted, reviewed and negotiated a variety of contracts including farmouts and farmins; surface use, gas purchase, oil purchase, easement, access, confidentiality and non-disclosure, indemnity, independent contractor, mortgages, deeds of trust, promissory notes, and security agreements; and assignments and deeds.

Mr. Franklin is a member of the Colorado, Texas, North Dakota and Denver Bar Associations. He is a member of the Denver Oil and Gas Title Lawyers Association. Mr. Franklin received his undergraduate degree in Economics and in Business Administration from Trinity University and his law degree from Southern Methodist University, augmenting his legal studies at the University of Oxford.  Mr. Franklin is licensed to practice in Colorado, Texas, and North Dakota.

Brett Huff

Brett Huff is Of Counsel to Spectrum Legal Group, LLP.  He is a seasoned litigator and trial attorney of 15 years who has a strong background in representing companies in contract, indemnity, non-compete and litigation matters, insurance companies and their insureds in coverage and defense, and personal injury plaintiffs in cases involving catastrophic injuries.   Mr. Huff represents clients at all levels of jurisdiction in Colorado and Wyoming, ranging from county courts to the United States Supreme Court.  To date, he has represented clients through more than 40 bench and jury trials and dozens of appellate cases.

Mr. Huff has undergraduate degrees from the University of Utah in English Literature and Speech Communication and a post-graduate certificate in Conflict Resolution.   He obtained his law degree from University of Wyoming College of Law.

Mr. Huff has published articles as an Assistant Colorado Editor to the Product Liability Desk Reference, Aspen Publisher, Inc., 2001 and the Tort Law Desk Reference, Aspen Publisher, Inc., 2001.

Mr. Huff is proud to have served as a Legal Specialist in the Utah Army National Guard from 1989 to 1997 and as a summer law clerk for Judge Dale Kimball of the United States District Court for the State of Utah in 1998.

Andrea F. Sobel

Ms. Sobel graduated from the University of Wyoming College of Law in 2018, focusing her studies on litigation practice and procedure. In 2017, she earned the High-A in the final trial of the Summer Trial Institute, a 2-week immersive trial practice course. In 2018, she appeared as co-counsel in The Spence Law Firm Historical Mock Trial, alongside the Honorable Chief Magistrate Judge Kelly Rankin of the U.S. District Court of Wyoming. Ms. Sobel operated as Trial Director for the mock trial during 2016 and 2017.

Ms. Sobel donated over 450 hours in the Civil Legal Services Clinic as a student attorney offering free legal assistance to underprivileged individuals and families across Wyoming. In Spring of 2018, Ms. Sobel appeared in Teton County District Court, Wyoming and obtained custody for a minor child fleeing domestic violence in El Salvador. She undertook this case entirely in Spanish for her clients, translating the law not only over the phone but in pleadings and written communications as well.

In 2015, Ms. Sobel assisted Ms. Schroeder and Mr. Huff at the Wyoming State Bar Annual Meeting for a CLE covering the Fair Labor Standards Act.

From 2015 to 2018, Ms. Sobel revitalized the dormant Blume Chapter of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, growing the Chapter from the 6 founding members to over 50 during her time as President. The Fraternity focused on scholarships for its members and raising hundreds of dollars every semester for small charities aiding the local Laramie community. She also served as Treasurer for the Wyoming Trial Lawyers Association’s Student Chapter during 2017-2018.

Ms. Sobel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she majored in Neuroscience with a strong background in Molecular Biology. Ms. Sobel worked as a Lead Research Assistant in the Psychology and Neuroscience Department performing research on addiction pathways in the brain and immune responses to stress.

Ms. Sobel is licensed to practice law in Colorado with a license pending in Wyoming. Ms. Sobel belongs to the Colorado Bar Association and remains active in Wyoming, including the Wyoming Trial Lawyers Association. Go Pokes!
